A mentor once said to me, once July 4th hits, the summer is over. This feels especially true this year! And in the agency search business, July means 2025 is just around the corner.
If you’re a marketer working with agency partners, here are the questions to ask right now to prepare for the coming year:
What are our upcoming goals, and can our agency help meet them?
Now is the time to confirm that your business goals align with the agency you hired. If your goalposts have changed, ensure that your agency can adapt. If your scope is evolving, can your agency handle it? Make sure your agency has the appropriate expertise and resources to support you now and next year.
Do we need a new agency or a “reset” with our current partnership?
A full-scale agency search is not always the answer. Sometimes your partnership simply needs an objective performance evaluation. Start by asking:
- Is our partnership transparent?
- Is the relationship built on trust?
- What were our successes?
- Are we able to have difficult conversations?
- Is our agency delivering on what we need?
- Are we happy with the work?
Now is the time to determine if your relationship needs a check-in or if there are deeper, longstanding issues that point to a search.
What is our timing?
If you want a new agency and new work by January 1, you’ll likely need a new agency by October 1. If your agency’s contract is up on December 31, you should start evaluating the partnership now. And if you need a new agency by October 1, your search should start now.
